Learning Environments and Portals

I’ve been exploring Learning Management Systems, like Moodle, and Social Networking Engines, like Elgg, lately. It got me thinking about creating a personal learning space for a group of employees that have really taken to my training approach.  My thoughts are that instead of giving them prepackaged linear course content, I could create an environment that allows them to pull and create content that answers their more specific needs.  Adding social features would hopefully create a means for them to share their ideas and lessons learned with each other.  I could still offer standalone courses but giving them a means to take control over the curriculum seems to be an exciting chance for a very personalized experience.
