The US News & World Report published a story that focused on the perception that hiring managers hold of online degrees (link here). It is not surprising that online degrees still lack the same credibility of a more traditional program. However, I would really like to see a study like this guage results for specific online programs. My own perceptions are that there are a number of programs that provide high quality education at a terrific value. Others, in my opinion, are largely a cash grab with a focus on getting as many students to start coursework online with little regard for how best to support them. Too often, online courses are launched without customizing the pedagogy to the delivery method or to they types of students enrolled. These programs are doomed to fail and continue to drag down the reputations of others.
